i picked up the ashley wood "zombies vs robots" book yesterday and saw this on the shelf as well... the metal gear art book... ashley wood is one of my favorite artist and i have a few of his books dating back to the spawn stuff, a really dope style and very inspirational work... i'll add this one to my collection of his works as well.. cant wait until the data east art show though, i too have a metal gear piece!

i work for a sports products company, they allow me to have free reign with my ideas and i get to go as crazy as i want with my designs(im not designing uniforms though) and i'll admit that im working on a terminator inspired cover design now for one of their catalogs, but i have to admit when i heard that the oregon ducks are sporting the darth vader'ish uniforms for the rose bowl this year, i thought to myself... sports has finally crossed into that realm of sci fi and the world is gonna be a much better place now.

this features 11 different materials that make up the uniform and the helmets have a liquid metal black finish... never before used in football helmets...the numbers have a sheen similar to duck feathers(oregon ducks).... hence why i love college football a lot better than the nfl... no fun league.. step it up reebok!

the key is to keep balance. a nice balance of graphic design, visual art and illustration.. although there is an art to all of those... i need them all to keep my creativity fed. over the past few months its been more so on the graphic design side, but that data east show and florescent black project is coming up, so that'll provide the balance. i'm also hoping to get on this new book as well.. a dollar and a dream will be the greatest thing ever. it'll keep the balance of graphic, design, visual art, illustration and of course.. comedy. i'll have more illustration work up soon... yep i'm a hybrid, i run off gas and electricity... i also braid hair, bake cakes, ummmmm, i act, and plenty other stuff... jack of all trades, master of none.

i was having a conversation with a friend down in florida last week, an upcoming designer/illustrator such as myself and she had the assumption that my work was always accepted and never rejected. I then explained that i get at least one rejection letter a month, my work's not always accepted. this commercial art thing and graphic design stuff is always tricky, you have to be able to appeal to various markets and audiences. but the key is to be consistent, confident in what you do and always have room to grow at your craft.

i was just happy they responded, but i've been at this for a while now. this was 6 years ago, and this guy use to draw spiderman and was a main staple of image comics.. my dream job, 6 years ago.

i remember when 1997 was the future, now we're in the future once again. only 1500 pair are made and you can only get them on ebay auctions, they're probably going to run you at least 4000.00 as well. they also have a patented self lacing system, no one has time to tie their shoes anymore, thats why they have tiny robots built inside. all proceeds will be going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

last summer, the guys and i did a photoshoot to be featured in an upcoming book to be published later this year about philanthropist in the area and our effect on giving back to the community. we were among others in the area that give back as well. this looks like a really cool project and i cant wait to see the book. so many of us always seem to take, but whatever you take, its always important to give back at least twice that amount... thanks to valaida fullwood for this project and including the crew. here's a teaser

a year ago, last summer, i debuted my heavy starch art book. i can honestly say that book has gotten me much needed exposure, i had no clue it would do as well as it did and also inspire. its taken me places, introduced me to even more great people and has solidified me with a final trip to ny(the center of the u.s. universe). this was an idea i 'd been working on 2 years ago, and with a few title changes and just the idea of doing a fun personal project... more so for myself. so, with a few reprints, publishing companies closing down, i still managed to keep it going. this book also spawned one of the best albums of the year. i cant ask for anymore. im proud, but im going to retire it. you can still get the free digital version if you click over to the right side of the blog. im working on the next personal project and who knows how far that one will go, and that doesn't matter as long as its better than the previous in my eyes. I've grown as an artist and designer since i first implemented the heavy starch idea, so im anxious to see what the new book turns out as. the best part is... i gave most of them out for free. let me introduce myself, as kiser. please take my calling card. its heavy starch, for the crispier professional look. no more wrinkles. im moving on to something better, say bye bye..deuces.

i just got back from doing cola con in columbia sc, a really amazing event where they transformed the columbia museum of art into a hip hop/comic book show... I'm truly honored to have gotten to be a part of this event as well. talib kweli was the special guest along with a surprise appearance by 9th wonder. so we have a stage, emcees, dj's and dope artist...all under the roof of an art museum. to hear the song "get by" set to the back drop of really fresh and unique comic art perhaps made my whole summer. i know its all gonna be ok now...

the carolina panthers owner, jerry richardson told cam newton, no tattoos and no piercings..no free expression, and he probably added no winning and no throwing touchdowns... iv'e always liked the college game better than the pros, to me its all around better to watch, the fan base, line backers that wear single digit numbers, insane offensive sets... its more fun, and i think that if division 1 added a playoff system, it probably would sink the nfl, thats my opinion. if the carolina panthers didnt have a franchise, i would probably never watch the nfl.
here are the new uniforms for the university of maryland..i wish the nfl(no fun league) had crazy out of the box uniform designs such as the ncaa does. the numbers even have the turtle shell theme as well. under armour designed these. there are 16 variations of the uniform, so the days of 2 are gone(home and away).. they even have matte black helmets and the numbers have gradients!!!!! college football 56, nfl 6.

...and here are the new nike pro combat uniforms for the georgia bulldogs..check the gloves! nike could you please get an nfl contract and get outta control and revamp the no fun league?! please... the steelers and redskins are lonnnnnng overdue, and miami dolphins!

film maker, Chris Everett asked if i could create a teaser poster for his latest film entitled "wilmington on fire". its a documentary on race riots from the late 1800's in south eastern north carolina. the film looks very interesting so i decided to come up with a series of poster designs. we liked all the designs but we're only gonna go with a series of 3 posters..i created 5, these are the two that didnt make the cut... but we still love them. i'm proud of the work, i'll post the other 3 later

i have friends and family that inspire me and give me the drive to instill greatness within my self, and thats a trait that im aspiring to grow into every day... there's always room to grow and to become better..not only at my craft, but as a better person as well.. a few of my inspirations are over to the right, underneath team supreme (any of those blog links) but there are a few missing. i awoke one morning last week to find out that i was voted into the best of charlotte. not only was i voted in it, but my art crew as well...

i didn't even know i was in the running, but its an honor. i'm proud of my god city crew! i thought we'd done alot of things that no one knew about(unless you hang out on a normal basis), but its an honor to know when your hard work gets noticed. if you'd been following this blog, there's no need to explain what was accomplished in the past year for this city, and this blog only contains half of what was done... i'm going to work even harder to inspire others and i know my family and extended family are gonna do the same to inspire me.

...and most people have no clue, half the stuff that we'd done wasnt even covered by the publication, so that makes it even sweeter...hard work gets noticed though. i saw an offensive facebook thread and got an email on the art choices picked, but all of the comments were wrong and i understand people were lobbying to win, then lost, and turned around and dissed the publication =/

im tired. i was talking to a friend yesterday and realized that i hadnt had a vacation in at least 4 years. sure, i've traveled places but its always revolved around art or graphic design. conventions, exhibits, video shoots, etc... there's little time to relax. i almost have sponsorship and backing locked in for the data east art show. almost... i just have to iron some things out. so now i have 2 venues charlotte and atlanta... however im going all out, i'm really trying to get at least 4 cities.. i have to push it back from my original set date. the sponsorship is talking about a red carpet event..pretty fancy, we'll see though.

here are two new pro wrestling pieces i finished up for the show... im gonna do 20-25 pieces for this show, then select 8-10 to actually put up.. i'll save the rest for the new art book... because that's bad ass, and i build bacon fences to keep the haters out!

sitting here waiting, realizing no one is coming...
being a free agent/bounty hunter/clean up man graphic designer for the past 5 years or so has left me scarred and defeated. i've always "ghost designed" for companies and individuals, most of whom probably shouldn't hold the title as graphic designers and art directors anyway. if i called myself a chef, yet i had no understanding of how to boil rice, so i just sent out for it and slapped my name over it anyway, at some point, cards are going to get pulled. honestly, people would rather look good losing than to actually win.

this has been a venture two years in the making and after a talk with my dad and the backing from friends, i've decided to go through with it. broken box. three of my collegues and i have decided to start a design company. this coming after working on a few projects together. the best is yet to come. sure its been a tough two years, and its left me like the guys in the video below. but this is what i do.

a quick rundown for you..derek helsel and i worked at a local art supply store in charlotte back in the day..circa 2001-2004ish...he was fired for drawing while working and i was fired for playing too much eric b and rakim, throwing the football in the store, not greeting stupid customers, hooking all my friends up and cute girls with my employee discount(dont know where any of those cute girls are now..bitches used me)...and countless other retail war crimes.
derek's a great illustrator and jumped at the idea when he found me under a bridge a year ago.

last night, in the arts district of charlotte nc, while partaking in the sports event known as the nba finals, being amongst rowdy dallas mavs fans and all around haters of lebron james, i couldn't help but notice a kid out on the corner playing his alto horn. at first glance i didnt notice his age, i only heard him playing from a distance and noticed people throwing him a few bucks now and then as they passed by. i sat a few yards away engaged in a conversation with my partner while he played away.

we noticed it was pretty late, a tuesday night and it was after 1am when he began to pack up and bring the night to a close. he then came over and sat next to us with some food he'd ordered by the nearby restaurant and asked for the time. we said "its near 2am." thats when i noticed he couldn't have been any older than 16, perhaps even younger. he then replied " i have to be at school at 8am" i was surprised. i asked "so you're still in high school and you're out on a school night till 2am earning money off your art?" he then said "you gotta do what you gotta do, and as long as im being positive with my actions" he then caught a cab home to get ready for school in the am. i didn't catch his name. that young man is going to be ok in life.

i think its important that we create our own opportunities and help ourselves realize our own happiness. i'm 33 years old and i'm just now getting to that mindset, i definitely didnt have that mindset when i was that age, i probably would've worked some stupid job at jack n' the box or something and been miserable just to get a crappy paycheck in which i could've gotten more if i'd only taken the steps to create my own happiness. i know its not all about the money, but that young man was ok. theres alot to be said about our attitudes and the youth coming up. despite the negative outlooks we may have and view in the media, i have a feeling the future is going to be just ok. its ok to sag those jeans a bit more!

i like to say im surrounded by a team of some the most talented and creative individuals in the world. well i say so, and these people are my good friends as well, i keep a close knit circle. we often put together cool projects and we always fund them ourselves, right out of our own pockets and time. last week a musical legend passed away. gil scott-heron was inspiration to a culture and most of us. so we got to work with a quick homage track and some art work for the project. first, introspective minds with the production and my partner maf maddix on the music side of project. fellow artist carlleena person and i contributed with the art works... take a listen

1999 still sounds futuristic

the year 1999, when the world was suppose to end, i drew a page. my first comic page. there were no xboxes, just ps ones and nintendo 64s. a very different time from the futuristic world we're living in now. some people still had pagers, not too many cell phones were in use. i drew a page. i used a toothbrush and sumi ink to get the gritty textures and masked it off with masking tape. 1999. wow.

circa 2002, this became my first ever t-shirt design. the original cell is framed and hangs over my couch now.

sometimes we have to reflect, and look back on things... and things like this earned me a healthy c- gpa in art classes.

i hadnt been posting like i should, i've been working on some really dope projects, most are under nondisclosure agreements, and i want to leak them so badly on this blog, but i won't, cause i can't. i could be like tmz or perez hilton, not that anyone cares about art and design as much as we care about who beyonce is dating or brad pitt and them. every year, i try and get better, gotta out do yourself from the previous year. grow, get better. theres always room for growth.

but im working on that play that'll put this game away though, its still early, its only may. but i have to get the crowd back in it, to let the opponents know they really dont have a chance. like miami did boston below.
(ps i dont have any opponents, except maybe myself, i just wanted a way to post this lebron video and tie it into my blog)

this "super powers" art show is coming together quite nice. we're only releasing certain details and images, like the u.s. with the whole bin laden event. we cant have the people in an uproar, especially the enemies.

i think im in love.
ive always been one of those people that like the technical aspects, abilities and knowledge of one's medium of a piece than one's mood that theyre conveying through that piece, but ive noticed a bunch of art aficionados think opposite. but wait, although that sparks a mood in me, so i guess they're right? there's something to be said about the knowledge one has about his/her medium, whether it be oils, pencils, photography, acrylics or even the computer.

i've sat through so many political arguments within the past 8 years. people hate bush, obama, republicans, democrats, tea partys...ross perot.. every type of argument. even seen a few a fights, friends break up, people get fired... so

my fellow partner antoine williams and i are preparing for our collab art show this fall(prepare for a sneak peak this summer though), based off a series of ideas we've been working on for the past 2 years. the super powers art exhibition. People tend to look at politicians as the god-like entities who we seek for salvation or who we fear as if they are super hero's and villains. This show takes a look at that.

sooo, why lie? im thinking, looking at this pineapple fried rice... just thinking.. absorbing all the living forms within the force that surround my life. its hard enough keeping this ship together to make it from galaxy to galaxy, but "lies" are those little gremlins that hang out in the engine room throwing wrenches at the photon accelerator. I always want them to get whats coming to them in the end, but now im sure they have parachutes and they'll survive alot longer anyway. i go back to the engine room but they pretend they're working for a better cause, but as soon as i turn my back, i hear the damn wrenches being thrown again! for me there's no parachute, no escape pods.. just me and this ship. a fleet of battered ships along with other pilots.. to be honest, the worst part is uncovering new lies, and hindsight is always 20/20.. jobs lie, bosses, spouses,enemies, gas station clerks about giving back your correct change.. and people will put up with it and just live it out as if its truth. gremlins, tearing up my ship.. expecting one not to know, but the lies are always revealed, but its often too late. but yo, this is my ship, i got rid of the escape pods and parachutes myself, in order to lighten the load.. jumping galaxies is hard... since last october, i got the hyperdrives working and my ship hit lightspeed. im working on 2 international design campaigns now and 1 national one... but its cool, throw all the wrenches you can. im smart, ima be ok, i can rebuild that photon accelerator 10 times over....

(i didnt have to throw in the part about the design campaigns, that was said out of spite and confidence, only for the gremlins, they hate confidence, it really has nothing to do with the story)

coke adidas... i'll get these right next time. but these were an experiment in an attempt to customize some sneakers. nothing serious. these were from the coke show "art of dope" last spring. i know its late, but i found my old sd card from my old phone and thought I'd do a phone photo "dump".

i know its simple, but i wanted a gradient effect, and didnt realize i had the wrong cap on the spraypaint... yes i know i shouldnt have used spraypaint anyway.. but these were old shoes and i was bored.

i put a coat of liquid latex on them before i sprayed them.

i probaly should have just left them as they were...

this was a simple idea from last spring that will hopefully lead to this complex idea (pictured below) for this summer...

whatever happened to genuine, honest people? in this day and age, the age of $3.00 a gallon gas and no more middle class, people are trying anything and everything to get over on others in order to gain their little worthless bit of the "pie". i strive for perfection each and everyday and i live by one common goal, making the world a better place. i help out others in need, i always place other's needs before my own.. on a day to day basis. always for the greater good, even when the good are few and far between. im sure this attitude will leave me broken and destroyed in the end, but i fight anyway, i dont care. i gave a guy my last dollar yesterday to find a hotel room(thats what he said it was for) and although i wont get a raise at work and i'm grossly under paid, the numbers for the company are up for the first time ever (doubled)... and honestly im a huge contribution to that.. but its well that others are eating. no one cares about honest genuine people. we're the everyday suckers right?

lets go back to me giving away my last dollar yesterday to help that guy out.. i had a flat tire and needed .75 to use the air pump. i go to the atm and get a 20.00 bill out grab a 1.00 coke to make change.... 1.06-20.00=12.00...the cashier gives me back $12.00. he knew what he was doing but he didnt expect me to notice then he questioned me for trying to get over on him. you cant trust everyone, its a known fact. and at times this world is all but lost..but we fight anyway.

triple bypass design

ive been working on ty bru's latest cd cover. the triple bypass album... his idea was for the ambulance to vinyl records as wheels. so this is what i came up with. ty bru always tends to push me with some crazy, dope concepts. i really dig this, im posting 2 color waves, the project isnt finalized yet. but i just had to leak it. i'll post the the download link later once the recording is done.
